Superheating Kiln Recipe and Production Requirements
Hardened glass requires the Superheating Kiln processing station at your surface outpost. You construct the kiln using meteorite ore, calcate materials, and microcircuits. Once placed indoors, the unit handles high-temperature refining tasks that basic smelters cannot process.
The fixed refining recipe requires three components:
- 6 Silica
- 12 Foucer Crystals
- 1 Oxite
Each completed batch delivers 2 Hardened Glass. Unlike standard smelting runs, this process has a heavy mineral cost, particularly in crystal volume. Refiners in the game possess limitless storage capacity for input items, but finished materials remain inaccessible for assembly until you transfer them from the station into your personal backpack or general outpost storage.
Where to Gather Necessary Raw Materials
Producing hardened glass consistently requires gathering specific ores across two distinct underground biomes.
Silica
Silica comes directly from Kalynite deposits or through crushing sandstone in the Stone Crusher. Alternatively, the Superheating Kiln converts 1 Kalynite Ore into 2 Silica. Kalynite nodes appear throughout the Cave hub area, particularly near the Clifftop and Cliffbase regions.
Foucer Crystals
Foucer crystals serve as the primary bottleneck for large glass batches. You harvest them from Tangrite nodes located in the Lost World around Facility Epsilon. These green crystal deposits break down with upgraded drills, yielding raw Tangrite ore, deepstone, and the crystals needed for kiln production. Because each crafting cycle consumes twelve crystals, stockpiling unrefined Tangrite nodes after an earthquake event remains the fastest route to steady production.
Oxite
Oxite drops from Kaloxite nodes situated near water pools in the Cave area and around Cliffbase. You also gain 3 Oxite as a byproduct when refining 2 Kaloxite Ore into a Kalynite Bar inside the Basic Smelter.
Crafting Applications for Hardened Glass
Hardened glass functions as a critical structural component for drill optics and medical hardware. Automated extraction drills stationed throughout deeper facilities require matching focusing lenses before they begin passive harvesting.
| Crafting Recipe | Primary Use Case | Required Materials |
|---|---|---|
| Tangrite Focusing Lens | Equipping automated drills in the Lost World | 2 Hardened Glass, 2 Tangrite Frame, 1 Bladestone, 1 Tangrite Ore |
| Jaspite Focusing Lens | Activating mid-tier mineral drills near Facility Theta | 3 Hardened Glass, 2 Tangrite Frame, 1 Vitaglass, 1 Jaspite Ore |
| Depthane Focusing Lens | Operating automated rigs within the Magma Rift | 4 Hardened Glass, 3 Tangrite Frame, 1 Depthane Heart, 1 Depthane Ore |
| Quarinium Focusing Lens | Drilling radioactive strata near Facility Tau | 4 Hardened Glass, 3 Tangrite Frame, 1 Miners Bane, 1 Quarinium Ore |
| Empty Injector (x2) | Preparing containers for antigens and health doses | 1 Hardened Glass, 1 Tangrite Bar |
Outside of drill optics, empty injectors made in the Biology Lab provide the baseline housing for survival medicines. Combining empty injectors with harvested biomass extracts or specialized fungi produces shields against environmental toxins and suit pressure drains.
Managing Kiln Automation and Inventory
The Superheating Kiln interface contains multiple active recipes by default. If left unchecked, the station will automatically burn incoming Kalynite into Silica or convert valuable minerals into basic building supplies.
To safeguard your materials, open the kiln management menu and click the checkmark beside the Kalynite-to-Silica recipe to turn it off when your silica reserves are stable. Foucer crystals also appear in drill bit schematics and frame assemblies, so running uncontrolled glass cycles can leave you short on components when upgrading gear.
When preparing for heavy infrastructure runs into the Magma Rift or placing a power relay line, craft only the exact glass batches required for your pending lenses. Storing completed glass directly in your outpost containers ensures that subsequent runs with advanced electronics have the necessary optical parts ready without extra surface processing delays.
