AETHUS Wrecked Tunnel: How to Reconnect Power to Facility Tau

Passing the AETHUS wrecked tunnel requires placing subterranean power relays to restore electricity from Facility Rho across the collapsed rift. Once you connect the relay converter at the wrecked entrance, the blast doors power up, granting entry into Facility Tau.

Exploration through the volcanic Magma Rift eventually brings Maeve and her drone companion Roland to a dead end created by tectonic shifts. The transit tunnel that previously linked deep subterranean outposts lies severed over a chasm of active lava. Resolving the obstruction requires establishing a remote power line using specialized deployables before the internal systems of the next station will respond.

Locating the Wrecked Tunnel in the Magma Rift

Access to the wrecked tunnel begins at Facility Rho, reached by elevator or teleporter from the upper surface. Moving out through the preparation room leads to a volcanic cavern crisscrossed with glowing green power conduits. These conduits mark the path of working electrical current through the sector.

Reaching the tunnel site involves crossing several rock formations surrounded by lava pools. Falling into the lava inflicts heavy thermal damage, making careful movement across the stone ledges necessary. At the edge of the fractured rock face, a severed structural passage sticks out over the drop. Maeve and Roland observe that seismic disturbances severed the original corridor connecting the two cliffs.

Resting on the ground near the rupture is a sample power relay build kit. Picking up this object allows Roland to scan its components, which unlocks the necessary crafting plans to manufacture subterranean infrastructure back at the surface outpost.

Unlocking the Expedition Hub and Build Kits

Subterranean kits cannot be constructed on a standard crafting bench. Pioneers must establish an Expedition Hub at their surface base to assemble gear rated for underground hazards.

The blueprint for the Expedition Hub becomes available on the outpost market terminal after inspecting the damaged tunnel and scanning the relay kit. Constructing the hub on your base foundation requires:

Once built, the Expedition Hub interfaces with your supply network to produce empty build kits from building material and tangrite bars. These empty kits form the structural base for every deployable station placed below ground level.

Before placing equipment in the chasm, review how to use build kits to manage subterranean structures effectively during deep mining runs.

Preparing Relay Materials and Magmasafe Composite

Every subterranean power relay demands specialized heat-resistant components. The most critical component is magmasafe building material, which prevents electronics from melting near open lava flows.

Producing magmasafe building material requires processing resources inside the Superheating Kiln using the following recipe:

  • 2 Reinforced Building Material
  • 10 Lavastone
  • 2 Depthane Ore

Lavastone covers the ground throughout the Magma Rift, while depthane ore deposits sit along the rock shelves near Facility Rho. In addition to the structural material, assembling each relay kit requires microcircuits crafted from gold bars and dust ruby powder. You will also need to know where to find a power cell or craft one at your electronics workbench using basic electronics, kalynite frames, and solazine.

Carrying two or three complete relay kits into the chasm provides enough leeway to bridge gaps without having to climb back to the surface for replacements.

Reconnecting Power Across the Collapse

Return to the Magma Rift through the teleporter and move out past the stone bridge toward the collapsed corridor. Bring industrial coolant units to slot into any temporary shelters along the way, as heat accumulation drains health rapidly once your suit temperature limits are exceeded.

To restore power to the tunnel entrance:

  1. Approach the edge where the working green power line terminates on the Rho side of the chasm.
  2. Open the subterranean construction interface by pressing the build key.
  3. Select the Subterranean Power Relay build kit from your inventory slots.
  4. Position the first relay within range of the active power conduit so the connection beam turns green.
  5. Place subsequent relays along the rock shelves heading downward toward the severed tunnel section.
  6. Target the power relay converter mounted on the collapsed tunnel structure with your final link.

Once the converter receives current, the external indicator lights switch on, signaling that the interior circuitry of the isolated complex has regained electrical flow from Facility Rho.

Entering Facility Tau and Restoring Operations

With the converter fully linked, step through the cleared passage to enter Facility Tau. The interior airlock and control zones remain intact despite the heavy seismic fracturing outside.

Inside the entrance corridor, players find a teleporter terminal that connects directly back to the surface base, removing the need to backtrack across the lava jumps on future supply runs. Signs along the hallway direct personnel toward the intelligence mainframe, waste processing, and manufacturing sectors.

Accessing the operational core of Tau requires clearing a radioactive leak that floods the rear airlock:

  1. Proceed to the sunken pit below the primary catwalks.
  2. Locate the waste output console controlling the drainage system.
  3. Trigger the pipe flush command to purge the glowing radioactive fluid from the lower floor.
  4. Access the manufacturing room console to receive blueprints for fuel rod molds.
  5. Deposit fuel rod molds made from kalynite bars along with quarinium ore into the internal processing hoppers.

Starting the production cycle at the operations terminal processes the raw mineral supply into finished nuclear fuel rods, which can then be combined with a high voltage converter and reactor housing parts to construct base RTG generators. Completing these steps clears the pathway beyond Tau toward deeper volcanic sectors, including the search for Facility Iota.
